About the 5-Day Solution

Do you struggle with nerves when you perform, speak, or compete in public?

Has your nervousness ever gotten in the way of you doing your best?

Has anxiety taken the joy out of being in the spotlight?

Most of us can answer yes to these questions. But what can you do about it?

The 5-Day STAGE FRIGHT Solution is the surefire answer. I've been working on it for a number of years now and, in a larger sense, my entire adult life.

I've seen stage fright needlessly afflict too many individuals over the years. I've even watched it end promising careers before they've had a chance to get off the ground.

What a terrible waste.

With the 5-Day Solution, I've brought together my many years of experience as a performer and educator along with my long background in the mindfulness at the heart of Zen to offer genuine hope for those who experience stage fright and other forms of performance anxiety.

I've served on the music faculty at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, for more than a decade, where I founded and directed a thriving degree concentration for students of popular music.

The country's leading music education magazine, In Tune Monthly, has recognized Catawba as a Best Music School for ten years, running on a short list of about fifty other colleges and universities, including Juilliard, Eastman, and Berklee.

The Princeton Review has also noted, "For theater and music students of all stripes, Catawba demands consideration."

I've also been at the forefront of mindfulness education for performers and am a Research Professional Member of the American Mindfulness Research Association.

2018 saw the release of my highly-rated book on the mindful answer for stage fright, The 5-Day STAGE FRIGHT Solution. It grows out of my popular online course of the same name.

As a professional musician, I've shared the stage with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Cher, and the Temptations. He is also the author of Jazz: Then and Now. published by Music Alive!

What Others Are Saying

"Dr. Fish is a pioneer in the field of popular music studies. He is also a charismatic and innovative music educator."
"I’m delighted to add my voice to the chorus of those, who if asked, would undoubtedly sing his praises."
"An association of colleges teaching popular music formed under his leadership and has become a force in music education."

The Mindful Way

by Dr. David Lee Fish

As a young musician fresh out of college, I began studying Zen under Master Seung Sahn at the Empty Gate Zen Center in Berkeley, California. Seung Sahn was renowned for distilling the opaque concepts of Zen into straight-forward language, especially concerning mindfulness.

I've used the mindfulness I learned under Seung Sahn in many ways down through the years, especially as a counter to the anxiety I've experienced as a performer and public speaker. I can honestly say that mindfulness has helped me unlock more of my potential, achieve greater professional success, and enjoy my moments in the spotlight in a way nothing else has.

I never gave much thought to the application of mindfulness to stage and speech fright beyond myself, though. That is until I learned just a few of years ago about exciting new schools of therapy that have begun to rely on the same sort of mindfulness I learned in practicing Zen to treat a range of anxieties. They have experienced a level of success unrivaled by more traditional approaches that has given rise to today's Mindfulness Revolution.

After a century, psychotherapy has finally figured out that trying to change our anxious thinking doesn't work well. What does is learning to accept mindfully those thoughts and detach ourselves from them.

Out of all of this has been born my passion for sharing mindfulness as the way beyond stage fright through the 5-Day Solution.

You don't need to shave your head, become a Hindu fakir, or spend years on a therapist's couch to find your way do so. You just need to apply a little age-old wisdom that's quickly gaining scientific validity in our own century.
